Intensive Culture with Partial Harvest: Plastic-Lined and Concrete Ponds

Plastic-lined pondConcrete pondWhite ShrimpFull CycleIntensive Culture

01 — Overview

What this protocol is for

High-density intensive culture protocol for plastic-lined and concrete ponds. Stocking density is 400 pcs per m2. A partial harvest at approximately Day 60 reduces density from 400 to 200 pcs per m2. The protocol covers pond preparation, initial culture from Day 0 to Day 4, the regular dosage schedule from Day 7 to Day 60, partial harvest, and post-harvest adjustments.

Primary Objective

Manage a high-density culture system with a mid-cycle partial harvest to optimise final yield.

02 — Indications

When to use this protocol

Plastic-lined and concrete ponds, White Shrimp (L. vannamei), high-density intensive culture

Important Notes

  • !

Do not use lime, dolomite, or zeolite with Blue Aqua system.

  • !

Do not use antibiotics, disinfectants during culture, pesticides, or herbicides.

  • !

Water exchange is not recommended. Top up with treated water for evaporation only. Water exchange may be considered case by case as an exception.

03 — Procedure

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Drain and clean liner

Drain completely. Remove sludge using soft tools. Remove debris and biofilm from liner and walls.

  2. 2

    Optional: post-disease chlorination

Fill to maximum level. Wait 2 or more days for spores or eggs to hatch. Apply 10 ppm free chlorine (bacterial) or 30 ppm (viral). Leave 3 days. Aerate on Day 4 to evaporate chlorine.

  3. 3

    Incoming water disinfection

Apply AlphaSep 1 to 2 ppm (10 to 20 kg per hectare) to incoming water. Leave for 1 day.

  4. 4

    Mineral pre-treatment

Apply MinGro 10 kg per hectare for 2 to 3 days with aerators running.

  5. 5

    Phytoplankton establishment

Apply FytoGro 15 kg per hectare. Target Secchi approximately 50 cm (stable light green to brownish colour).

  6. 6

    Day 0: Stock PLs

Stock at 400 pcs per m2. PL age must be above PL12. Apply Artemia 1 can per 200,000 PLs, distributed evenly.

  7. 7

    Day 1: MinGro and SoilGro

Apply MinGro and SoilGro at recommended dosages.

  8. 8

    Day 2: Molasses

Apply molasses 1 kg per hectare.

  9. 9

    Day 4: SoilGro

Apply SoilGro based on pond condition. Following day: apply molasses.

  10. 10

Regular dosage schedule: Day 7 through partial harvest

MinGro 10 kg per hectare weekly. FytoGro 15 kg per hectare weekly (Days 7 to 14), then 3 kg per hectare weekly (Days 15 to 60). SoilGro and BactoGro 250 g per hectare alternating weekly. Molasses 10 to 15 percent of daily total feed, applied the day after SoilGro.

  11. 11

Partial harvest at approximately Day 60

Harvest to reduce density from 400 pcs per m2 to 200 pcs per m2. Target harvest size: approximately 100 count. Continue growing remaining shrimp to approximately 50 count.

  12. 12

    Post-harvest adjustments

After partial harvest: reduce FytoGro to 2 kg per hectare. Continue minerals and probiotics per schedule.
