Biology

The postlarvae often migrate to estuaries where they grow to juveniles/adults before returning to sea. Belonging to phylum Arthropoda, it is defined by having jointed appendages and an exoskeleton or cuticle which is periodically shed. It can grow up to a maximum length of 230mm. The rostrum with 7 to 10 dorsal and 2 to 4 (sometimes 5 to 8) ventral teeth. The colour of the body is translucent, bluish or olive with darker bands, reddish-brown antennules, but differentiated by white legs. This species is sexually dimorphous where females often grow faster compared to males. They are easier to be bred in captivity because they are open thelycum species.
